Michigan Runner Race Series, 2002 to 2010
=========================================
Michigan Runner magazine established the Michigan Runner Race Series in order to let Michigan's best runners know which races would count toward Michigan Runner of the Year awards. The series attempts to schedule competitive, well-run races and to balance geography, the calendar and distances from the 5K to the marathon. Most years feature an event in the Upper Peninsula, an event in northern lower Michigan and one trail run. Three races (Fifth Third River Bank Run, Crim 10 Mile and Detroit Free Press Flagstar Marathon) have appeared every year. For the 2010 series and the series point system, see

Tim Broe to Coach "In The Arena" Distance Running Project

Since Olympic 5000 meter finalist Tim Broe left Michigan a couple of years ago, he found a new career coaching high school track and field and cross country in his home-town of East Peoria, Illinois.

We spoke by phone with Tim earlier this week and found out a little about a new venture which he will undertake this summer. He'll coach a new Olympic development program for long distance runners which is being established in New Hampshire by the group known as "In the Arena". Tim says the new program will be modeled on the program established by Kevin and Keith Hanson. Stay tuned for updates on "In the Arena".

Olympic Snowboarders Train at Otsego Club's Half Pipe

OK, this isn't running, but our sister network, Michigan Skier Television, had the chance to watch some Olympic snowboarders train on the only Olympic-sized half pipe at Gaylord's Otsego's Club.

Sunday's New York Times featured an article by Joanne C. Gerstner, former Detroit News writer, who is now doing some stringing for the New York Times.
